This afternoon, I picked Christine up from School and took her to James Cook to the ENT Outpatients department. She saw the same consultant that performed her operation who was very pleased with her voice which didn’t exist last time he saw her. He told her the biopsy confirmed what he and the one life anaesthetist had thought, that the polyp was benign. He put a scope up her nose and down her throat to have a look at the result of the op. There is a small lump left after the microsurgery which he wants to remove in a further op, using laser surgery. When Christine asked about a repeat of her post op lunacy, he assured her it was highly unusual and she had been subject to shock and extended sedation and it is unlikely to be repeated. She has a further appointment for a checkup towards the end of March then she’ll go to James Cook for day surgery to slice off the remaining lump. Only when that’s all sorted and she’s recovered will they consider rearranging her other op at One Life.
As an aside he did say that she was lucky the One Life anaesthetist had found the problem and stabilised her so quickly. He was full of praise for him. The problem she had there could have occurred at any time and it could have had a very different ending.
